Jenny

Hi! My name is Jenny Jones and I’ve been alive for 22 years! I’m originally from a small town near Kansas City, MO where I grew up on a farm. I moved to Columbia in 2014 to study photojournalism at MU, but soon after I discovered my passion for food and sustainability. I love my kitties, music, gardening, riding my bike, and reading. I’ve been vegan for a year and a ½ and have loved every second. I’ve never felt healthier!

How did you become interested in natural foods?
After going vegan and realizing the mental and physical benefits of natural foods, I was obsessed! I dove into researching plant-based recipes and recipes containing whole foods in general. The more time I spend following a diet of mostly natural foods, the better I feel. I truly believe food can be medicine.

How long have you worked at Clover's?
3 ½ months and I feel so lucky to work in such an incredible environment surrounded by people who share similar interests.

What do you like about working at Clover's?
Before I started working at Clovers I knew I needed to be doing something I was passionate about. I needed to be surrounded by people who shared my passion for food, sustainability, and helping people. I knew working at Clovers would not only mean being surrounded by people who had similar interests, but that my knowledge of natural food and sustainability would expand! I’ve already learned more that I could’ve imagined!

What are a couple of staple food items at your home?
What do you always have in your pantry/refrigerator? Beans and greens! I try to include both in every meal. Legumes and greens such as spinach, kale, and arugula are full of protein and they are delicious and nutritious in many other ways!

Do you take any supplements?
I take a multivitamin once a day, a once-daily probiotic, and an Ashwaganda supplement for stress relief and mood stability. As a vegan, vitamins assure that I’m getting all my body needs. I believe everyone could benefit from taking vitamins and supplements.

What keeps you active?  Do you have an exercise routine?
I try to exercise as much as possible because it’s beneficial for mental health and helps me sleep. I currently have a membership to Planet Fitness and try to go at least 4 times a week. I’ve been running since high school and I still love to start a workout with running a couple of miles. I also recently started a weight lifting plan and love how strong it makes me feel.

What inspires you outside of work?
Being in nature definitely inspires me as well as sitting outside of a coffee shop and reading. Seeing people who I love and am close to is also inspiring.

What's your favorite book?
I recently discovered the author Mary Roach and her book Gulp is currently my favorite book. It’s described as a “trip down the alimentary canal” and it’s honestly a little gross, but her writing style makes the grossness humorous.

Who was your favorite band in high school?
In high school, I had pretty terrible taste in music. I loved Paramore and went to see them every time they were in KC. Paramore and No Doubt were my first concert in 2009. I still love them and love Hayley Williams for her awesome style and for fronting such an incredible band.

What are your favorite body care items?
I love the Acure Argan Oil and Pumpkin Shampoo and Conditioner. A couple months ago I dyed my hair blue and I thought my hair was done for, but after using Acure, my hair is so soft! I also love anything by Evan Healey and Dr. Bronner’s castile soap.

What's your go-to fast and easy healthy meal when you're in a rush?
My favorite fast and easy healthy meal is vegetables such as broccoli, bell pepper, mushrooms, and kale on top of rice noodles. I like to top it with coconut aminos and sriracha and could probably eat it every day.

Many Clover's employees have been with Clover's for a long time.  Why do you think that is?
Many of Clover’s employees have been with the company a long time because they are treated well, respected, and appreciated. It seems like that isn’t common in most places of employment.

Tea or coffee?
I like tea and coffee and I decide which one to drink depending on the day.

Do you have any guilty pleasures?
Potato chips and pasta! I love every carb that’s terrible for me! Wendy’s fries are also vegan, so I treat myself to those sometimes too!

Is there a particular area of health that you feel especially knowledgeable in?
I’m always suggesting delicious meat and cheese substitutes to those who are interested in switching to a plant-based diet.

What is your personal philosophy on health?
Learn how to listen to your body and give it what it needs whether that’s a giant salad or a 20 mile bike ride or potato chips and a lazy day!

Do you have any pets?
I have two cats-Prudence and Jude and they both have a lot of personality!

What do you want people to know about Clover's?
Clovers is incredible! Our employees are knowledgeable and passionate about natural living. If a customer has a question about a product, it’s likely someone working has an answer. The employees at Clover’s genuinely care about providing the best solution to any problem a customer might have. The products in the store are awesome too!
