ASHLEY

ASHLEY

How did you become interested in natural foods? Well, I fell into natural foods in a desperate attempt to feel better after eating mostly ramen noodles my first year of college. I was only 19 and felt exhausted and achey. I knew something wasn’t right. A friend took me to Wild Oats in St. Louis and I don’t think I have eaten a ramen noodle since!

How long have you worked at Clover's? 2.5 sweet, sweet years! I was a loyal shopper for years and finally decided to join the family. I’m go glad I did!

What do you like about working at Clover's?  I love this place more than I could really say in a few sentences, but I’ll try. I love what Clovers stands for. I love that we support our community in their quest towards personal health. It feels miraculous to me when a person walks in desperate to feel better and walk out feeling hopeful and in charge of their own health. More than anything, I deeply love the family that is formed here by our employees. We truly care for and respect each other. I’ve never experienced anything like it. I’m stuck on you guys!

What are a couple of staple food items at your home?  It sounds funny, but we are never without cabbage! I love making slaw with it. I am mostly grain-free and cabbage sliced in strips and fried up with some coconut aminos makes a great lo mein alternative! You also can’t go wrong with a pan full of Patchwork farms breakfast sausage and cabbages. Don’t forget to throw some kraut on top!

Do you take any supplements?  A few years ago, I was diagnosed with an auto-immune thyroid disease. It affects many aspects of my life- both physically and mentally.  I have found the  most relief from cutting out inflammatory foods, but I also seem to benefit from taking selenium and berberine. Berberine is an incredible supplement!

What keeps you active? I love hiking with my kids. Nature is so forgiving and expansive. Some days, bringing the kids out in nature is what gets us all through the day!

What inspires you outside of work? I am inspire by the dreamers

Who was your favorite band in high school? Stevie Wonder. After a few years of wallowing in grunge and flannel, I had had enough and I broke out all of my mom’s old records. I spent my days listening to Stevie, Cat Stephens, Helen Reddy, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis and old African tribal recordings. I’m so grateful for those albums.

Do you have a favorite body care item? Weleda’s Rose Deodorants spray- It’s so simple and and smells wonderful!

What's your go-to fast and easy healthy meal when you're in a rush? My go-to lunch at work is Gluten Freeda’s shredded beef burrito with and avocado chopped up and topped with barbeque sauce. Yum!

Many Clover's employees have been with Clover's for a long time.  Why do you think that is? This is a place where you are encouraged to show up authentically and inspired to be your best self. We feel trusted and loved by our co-workers. That is scarce in our culture and it’s something you don’t want to give up once you got it. I can’t quit you, Clovers!

Tea or coffee? Both. All day.

Do you have any guilty pleasures? I don’t know why I would ever admit this, but I have never missed a season of Big Brother. I even bought a TV once just to watch the finale in real time and returned it the next day. I’m not proud.

Is there a particular area of health that you feel especially knowledgeable in? I feel pretty knowledgeable about thyroid health because of facing my own health issues. I have done a lot of research on autoimmune diseases in general and have gained some wisdom through trial and error. Herbalism is also a passion of mine.

What is your personal philosophy on health? I believe health almost always starts with what we eat and then we can build from there. We can take all the supplements in the world and do all of the quick detoxes, but we won’t really heal until we start feeding ourselves nutrient rich foods.

What do you want people to know about Clovers? That this place truly stands for what it appears to stands for. Meaning that this company goes out of it’s way to make sure that it provides for our local community and bring high quality health product to our customers. If the employees seem really happy to be here, it is because we are. We are well supported and trusted to do our best. This shows in everything we do- especially in the way we get to connect to our community.
